The Story.
Yesterday I was cleaning my apartment for a few minutes because I had some time. My trash can wasn’t full but I had just tossed out some nasty smelling leftovers from the fridge. I didn’t want the apartment to get stinky so I gathered the trash from the rest of the house to fill it up. After filling it up I tied it up and was about to take it out to the trash can. Then I was struck with a decision to make. Should I take out the full bag and then put a new bag in the can when I came back, or should I put in the new bag right now and then take out the full bag?
This decision put me into a predicament. If I took out the stinky trash right away I might get back and forget to put the bag in right away. Maybe I would just go straight to the living room and continue watching Breaking Bad. Even if I told myself I would take care of it when I came back what if I would forget about it? This happens to me all the time.
In the end, I decided to replace the trash bag before taking the trash out. I figured this approach had a higher rate of success in accomplishing both tasks. It ended up working. However, this little series of events…
