What I’m Learning. At Work…

Create an Agenda for Everything.

Going into this week I had planned to start setting an agenda prior to each meeting. Looking back, I should have set an agenda to set an agenda. The reason I say that is, I only set an agenda for 2 of my 12 meetings.

As a result, I had a few meetings go kind of poorly. My definition of poorly is that I didn’t get to the goal I had as effectively as possible. I know every meeting should be a conversation. However, there should always be, at the very least, a loose purpose for each meeting.

I occasionally have coffee with people literally just to get to know them and see what kind of wisdom I can gain from them. Even that is a goal. Having that goal in mind helps me ask the right questions to hopefully get answers that will really be relevant to the problems I’m currently in the process of solving.

From here on out I will be setting more agendas. One thing to mention is that a meeting agenda doesn’t have to be followed to the tee. A good agenda should have room for improvement and basic adjustments. However, having that agenda keeps you somewhat on track.

I will be setting agendas for the week, for each day, and for each meeting. Doing this will help me keep my focus…
