Week 5 of my Apprenticeship.

I learned a lot from Miyamoto’s writings this week. Hence the picture of him. No, it’s not some random anime.

This past week I spent most of my time in NYC visiting a friend and making new ones. I also had some opportunities to meet very successful people and to ask them questions.

As a result of being gone for most of the week, I didn’t have a super eventful work week. Just the regular daily grind. So, this week will focus mainly on what I’m learning in life.

What I’m Learning.

At Work…

  1. Present a solution for the problems you bring up.

This is a skill that will help you in many parts of life but it is especially helpful when dealing with your manager. The nature of a startup is one of testing, learning, and growing. So, when there are issues in the process, (or lack of a process) or when there is something you are struggling with keeping up, the responsible thing is to bring it up to your boss.

They will be happy because you didn’t add any stress to their life, you improved the business, and you were transparent with them.

When you bring up an issue to your boss you are effectively putting a pile of sh*t 💩 on his/her already cluttered desk. When you bring that pile of sh*t on a shovel and offer a solution that effectively turns that sh*t 💩 into…
