Is Kanye’s Potential Run Indicative of a Bigger Problem?

This past 4th of July weekend, the internet was shaken by what at first glance appeared as another publicity stunt from Mr. West. My initial reaction to this was one of confusion. After reading into it further, and uncovering some semblance of legitimacy, my mind started to ask some tougher questions. Questions like, would Kanye be a good president? What does the general public think of this move? How will it affect the upcoming election? What would Kanye in the Whitehouse look like? You get the picture.

However, I think the real question is, why are we even in a world where this is a real headline? What has our country come to that we have a rapper — arguably the most successful rapper — running for president? Have our so-called political thought leaders veered so far from the path of reality, and effectiveness that Kanye West is announcing his run for the Presidency? How do we have two people heading up their respective platforms that are so ridiculous, that we can actually consider a vote for Kanye?

Over the past few months I’ve been asking myself how with so many smart men and women in our country, we are somehow left with these two dismal options?
