Characteristics of a Top Recruitment Firm
In case this is your first time here, today’s post is a follow-up to last week’s about Why You Should Consider Starting Your Career in Recruitment. I had intended to define what makes a good recruitment firm in that post but realized it was too much for one so wanted to break it down.
So, at this point, I’m assuming you’re interested in recruitment and want to get on the hunt. Here are the things I would look for knowing what I do (after 2 years in recruitment).
1. A Team-Focused Culture
Many recruitment firms have teams where each consultant is in it for themselves. There are no incentives for true team cohesion. The focus is on individual achievement and the competition is intra-team rather than intra-market. Something I’d be attentive to is the culture around hiring. Do they hire and have incentives to develop grads/juniors? Or are they just throwing young talent at the wall hoping it sticks?
Team-focused cultures revolve around functioning together. My boss uses the metaphor that we are a high-performance soccer team. Some consultants have more striking power (Business Development), while some are better at defense (Sourcing/Admin/Data). The different talents or positions work together to create a winning team.
