At what point is saying “we reward highly motivated people” rude?

A reflection on something that happened to me Spring of 2019.

The Story.

This spring I received an offer to come in for an interview. I decided to take it because the job description and the chat I had with the recruiter on the phone sounded pretty legit. To summarize they were looking for someone to step into a low-level management position, who would then transition into a higher-level position. I went there and it turned out to be a job selling TV and internet plans in Wal-Marts. They said if you worked hard you could get advanced to the management position.

Suffice to say it was misrepresented. But the point I need to make involved me saying, they offered $15 an hour draw. After you started making commissions then you would get paid real money and it would pay back your draw. They would expect you to work your hinder off because that was the only way you could make it that far.

Isn’t that rude?

I know that people need to prove themselves; in this example, it seems silly. As you know I worked as an insurance salesman for a year and a half. If I were to put the effort needed to advance in that position, into insurance I would have easily made $100,000 to $150,000. This…
